Cypress Lake High School Center for the Arts Students & Chris Spiro

Lee County high school students experienced a bit of poking and prodding today during one of our branding presentations at the Agency that Chris Spiro has been providing over the past four years.

It was part of their Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program at Cypress Lake High School for the Arts in south Fort Myers.

Students present their brand

Chris led the students in a hands-on activity that focused on finding their personal brand via an old-school exercise that involved scissors, offline magazines and a little imagination. Each student cut out graphics and words that represent their lives and lifestyles, pasted them onto a board. One by one, students then presented their personal brand board verbally in front of their peers.

lee-county-high-school-stemThe activity helps the Lee County high school 9th through 12th graders see themselves a little deeper, and how others may see them. It also is a good way to know other students at Cypress Lake High School a little better.

The Brand Architects® at Spiro served as judges in reviewing each presentation, assigning scores for characteristics such as organization, poise and demeanor, and communication skills.

Lee County High School STEM

Lee County STEM initiatives are funded through the generosity of business partners, offering students the opportunity to participate in field trips and internships as well as experience hands-on activities through partnerships with businesses in the community.

The National Science Foundation estimates that 80 percent of the jobs created in the next decade will require some form of math and science skills.

STEMtastic Day of Discovery

On a side note, the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools invites students and their parents to participate in the 2017 STEMtastic Day of Discovery at Harborside Event Center on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This annual event is free to the public and aims to introduce more students and their parents to the areas of science, technology, engineering and math. There will be over 125 exhibits to explore and food will be available for purchase.
