Claims against manufacturers of hair relaxer sand cosmetic hair straightening products are already being evaluated for clients who have developed various forms of cancer or other illnesses after using the products. A recent lawsuit was filed by a 28-year-old woman in October 2022, saying she developed uterine cancer, causing her to have a full hysterectomy the same year she was diagnosed. There have been numerous cases reported where uterine cancer was the primary injury after using certain products.
“This partnership is important, not only because of the number of potential victims being identified from using the CPAP machines defective and dangerous hair relaxer products, but also because of the experience Levin Papantonio Rafferty brings to the table,”Aloia|Roland senior partner Evan Lubell said. “Thousands of innocent victims have suffered needlessly due to bad choices made by large corporations; we want to make sure potential victims receive full and fair compensation for the harms and losses they have already experienced and will continue to suffer in the future.”

Approximately 9 million service members and citizens were potentially exposed to toxic water between 1953 and 1987, according to the VeteransAdministration, making Camp Lejeune one of the worst cases of water contamination in U.S. history. People who were exposed to toxic drinking water and developed serious illnesses as a result may qualify to file claims against the U.S. government to recover losses due to their illnesses.

- Educate attendees as to the nature of the chemicals that were detected inthe drinking water at Camp Lejeune.

FORT MYERS | Protecting Southwest Florida athletes in the heat
FORT MYERS, Fla.—The importance of protecting Southwest Florida athletes from the danger of heat-related illnesses belongs to Zach Martin.
Zach was a 16-year-old Riverdale High School football player who collapsed during practice and died of a heatstroke.
The tragedy sparked the Zachary Martin Act, a state law that required schools to use safety tools like a wet bulb globe thermometer. The wet bulb globe thermometer is a device Fox 4 told you about last month that helps coaches decide if it’s safe to practice outside.
Back then, Ty Roland, a senior partner for the firm of Aloia, Roland, Lubell & Morgan, PLLC who represented Zachary Martin’s family in 2017 told Fox 4 he would buy a wet bulb globe thermometer for any team that needs one.
“Well we got a call from the school where you were that night,” said Roland.
That school was Fort Myers High School and on our way to deliver the device Fox 4 spoke with Laurie Martin Giordano, Zach Martin’s mother.
“It’s such a blessing for me to know that he is still continuing to protect kids,” said Giordano.
Giordano started the Zach Martin Foundation which she said consistently goes out and helps programs get the safety tools they need.
“Whether they have the budget or not is not up for discussion we don’t even ask,” said Giordano. So when Fort Myers High School’s Athletic Director, Steven Cato said they needed a second wet bulb globe thermometer, Roland and Giordano delivered.
“We share this reading with all of our coaches all the way from cross country to football, cheer, and band,” said Cato.

‘Catch the Vision’ captures wealth of new projects
Annual program highlights 18 development standouts totaling $300 million; 1,000 new jobs
projected
“The future is now.”
Those words rang true Tuesday night at Cape Christian as the 11th annual Catch the Vision showcased multiple upcoming projects and developments arriving in Cape Coral over the next year-plus.
“The future is now,” said former Cape Coral mayor and one host of the presentation, Joe Mazurkiewicz.“That’s really the big thing. It is happening right away. Being here for 50-plus years, always knowing that someday ‘we maybe, could be, if so, sometime,’ and to watch it actually happen is just really, really exciting.
”This edition of Catch the Vision, which highlights Cape Coral’s growing real estate market, forthcoming projects, new trends and what to expect in the coming year, took a deep dive into18 different developments—the most they’ve ever featured.
“I think everyone was pleasantly surprised about all of the money coming in and all of the job opportunities coming in,”said Cape Coral District 1 Council member Gloria Tate, who organizes this even each year alongside her colleague at Raso Realty, Linda Biondi.“I think every council member that has ever run for office has said to diversify the tax base, take the burden off the residents, and we are doing that with all of these projects that are arriving.
”All in all, Catch the Vision’s production promoted more than $300 million in developments coming into the city with more than 1,000 additional jobs.
“Look at the opportunities for workforce housing, and senior workforce housing. We’ve never had that,”Tate said.“Veteran opportunities—everything is changing in Cape Coral, and it’s changing for the better. Our goal is to not have people go over those bridges.”
Change is certainly coming to one of the fastest-growing cities in America, including new developments in the South Cape to give it more of a downtown vibe, additional housing—affordable housing at that—industrial development, healthcare, and retail.
“We heard terms like ‘cool’ and ‘spunk’ for downtown,”said Mazurkiewicz.
Co-host with Mazurkiewicz and Cape Coral Construction Industry Association ExecutiveDirector/CEO BillJohnson Jr., added,“Just the overall diversity of what we’re seeing this year as far as the projects, is really, really cool because we had our years where it was our senior centers, years that is was housing, but to see business actually want to come into our town, invest money, not only bring economic development in, but create jobs, create a whole life style for the residents of our community, it’s really exciting.”
The presentation, which was preceded by a networking opportunity, saw a broadcast of Mazurkiewicz speaking with key members of each project, giving attendees a broader insight into each of these new developments.Keith Quackenbush, owner of Temperature Pro and a first-time attendee of Catch the Vision, said to see what the city is doing in terms of investments and bringing in new business is an invaluable experience.
“It’s very exciting,”he said. “I’m going to go back (to networking forums) and prop up what’s happening here. Even people not in this area, I encourage them to come down and take a peek at what’s happening. The growth is exciting in a big way and it’s great to be part of it.”
Cape Coral City Manager Rob Hernandez addressed the crowd at the end of the presentation and discussed not only the vast array of business coming to the Cape, but what the city itself is doing to invest—a departure from the city’s behavior in the past.
“Our private investors are coming to the plate and they are investing heavily in this great city,”he said. “But the city is investing heavily as well.
“If we’re going to be successful in economic development and prepare our city for what’s to come over the next 50 years, we have to be prepared to do things differently.”
Hernandez spoke of the $60 million Parks GO Bond program approved by the voters in 2018 and the recent groundbreaking of four new parks. He added the city is finishing up (90%completion) what he called the“signature project”of the bond—the complete reconstruction of the Yacht Club Community Park. There are talks of a second restaurant being added, and definite plans for new tennis courts, a 300-space parking garage, a new boat launch facility and more.
Hernandez added the city just finished the most recent phase of its utility infrastructure expansion north of Pine Island Road.
“Everything south of Pine Island Road now has access to city water, sewer, and reuse water,”he said. “Now we’ve just finished the first major section north of Pine Island and we’re in design for UEP 1, which will bring water, sewer, and reuse water in pretty much the northeast section of the city and it’s going to include another key area for economic growth in the city and that is what I refer to as ‘East’ Pine Island Road, and that’s the area around Pondella (Road) going out to the city limits, Judd Creek, and we’ve got some new developments that are going through the preliminary design review process that we didn’t talk about here this evening. Hopefully, next year we’ll be able to share the news associated with those projects.
“Major household names that all of us recognize that are looking at investing in the Cape. And when they’re ready they’re eventually going to give us the green light.”
Hernandez said another area of the Cape to keep an eye on in the near future is Burnt Store Road. “We’re working right now with our staff to make sure our zoning is conducive to the right typeof development,” he said. “Pine Island Road right now is basically spoken for. The next major corridor for economic development in this city is going to be the Burnt Store Corridor.”
Projects currently in development or are soon to be include:
Pro Parks/ Sun Splash Water Park
The city of Cape Coral has entered into a 30-year lease for the operation and maintenance of Sun Splash Family Waterpark. The public-private partnership will be profitable to the city, which has subsidized the facility for years, officials said. The firm will be responsible for running and maintaining the facility, except for the parking lot. There also will be special events they want to build on.

boat storage facility at Fort Myers Beach
Fort Myers Beach, FL (June XX, 2023) – Golden anchors, a vision turned to reality and continuing signs of recovery were all part of a one-of-kind “anchor setting” event recently for the new Compass Rose Marina project on San Carlos Island at Fort Myers Beach.
Before community leaders and other dignitaries, Compass Rose owner Jack Mayher unveiled a project, which will include a boat storage facility capable of withstanding 200 mph winds and flood waters, another marina and eventually retail shops, condos and townhomes off Main Street near Fort Myers Beach
The anchors replaced the traditional shovels and symbolized the setting of another project coming to Hurricane Ian-ravaged Fort Myers Beach. The boat storage facility – the first phase of the project – is expected to take about a year to complete and can store 286 boats up to 50 feet in length. There also will be a 29 wet slips. Just across the road will be Ryco Marine, which will be working with Compass Rose Marina. The next phases of the project include 30,000 square feet of retail, office, and mini-storage space. Also proposed is 20,000 square feet of civic space, a ship’s store, a restaurant, 75 luxury residential condos, and 15 townhomes.
The anchor-setting event featured comments from Mayher as well as Lee County Commissioner Ray Sandelli, Fort Myers Beach Mayor Dan Allers and Florida State Senator Jonathan Martin. About 40 people attended at the construction site where anchors were dropped to launch the project.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better kickoff to this project which has been in the works for 17 years,” said Mayher, who also owns Southern Comfort Storage. “This whole venture is a dream come true for me and we can’t wait to bring everyone back for a tremendous ribbon cutting when we open the storage facility in a year.”

City: Fort Myers
Website: wcgfl.com
Year founded: 1946
CEO: Fred Edman
Industry: Construction
Employees in SWFL: 53
They keep things simple at Wright Construction Group, a Fort Myers-based, family-owned construction firm that celebrated its 75th anniversary last year. It’s all there in one of the company’s mottos: “Wright from the start.”
“The culture at Wright Construction would be one that’s very warm. Family in its orientation; caring in its orientation. Lots of long-term employees,” CFO Mitch Bueltel says in a video celebrating the company’s diamond jubilee. “It’s not uncommon to have employees who’ve been there well over 20 years because it’s a good place to work. It’s a warm environment. It’s a culture that’s focused on quality and great care for their clients.”
Sure, it offers solid pay and benefits to employees. And like other companies on this list, it has monthly employee recognition awards, holiday parties and the like. But it’s that family feel and spirit of collaboration that really sets it apart and cultivates a company culture of growth, care and quality work.
President Fred Edman inherited stewardship of the firm from his father Ron. Now Fred and his wife, Kelly, remain the sole owners and have brought their own family into the company. “When we come, we bring an army, and that army can do just about anything,” Fred Edman says in that anniversary video. “They all work together, everything that they do. And they put their giftings together and make it all work. It’s really fun to be a part of.”

Cape Coral Fire Station 12 Ribbon Cutting to Commemorate Construction Completing
Lee County, Fl. – On May 4th at 1:30 pm, the Cape Coral Fire Department commemorated the completion of construction on Cape Coral Fire Station #12 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Fire Station is located on Chiquita Boulevard South, just north of Veterans Parkway. The response district for Fire Station #12 will incorporate areas previously covered by Stations 4, 6, and 8, servicing a population of over 20,000. They expect to respond to 2,500 emergency calls annually.
“A fire doubles in size every 30 seconds, which can quickly lead to difficulty breathing. In an emergency, every second counts,” said Fire Chief Ryan W. Lamb. “The addition of Fire Station #12 will greatly reduce response times to residents in this quickly growing community.”
Fire Station #12 was designed by Sweet Sparkman Architects and constructed by Wright Construction Group. The nearly $4.5 million dollar structure was built to withstand a Category 5 hurricane. It features three apparatus bays over 77 feet in length, seven bunk rooms for on duty crews, multiple layers of weather protection, and a full backup power generator.
“Our goal as a city is from what we’d like to say hello to hello–from a 911 ‘Hello, how can I help you?’ to a firefighter knocking on your door, we want to be under 10 minutes,” Lamb said.
Wright Construction Group is grateful to be partnering with the Cape Coral Fire Department to provide the City of Cape Coral with fire stations that will equip the fire fighters with the resources to serve and protect their community well.
